About the album

Quemado Rain is the second in a series of "Drive By Flutings". The first three songs on this CD are Native American Style Flute solos with with the usual echo and reverb effects. The last song which is over 31 minutes long is played against the backdrop of an approaching thunderstorm which I recorded while on a wood-gathering expedition in the Quemado National Forest in New Mexico. Quemado translates to "smoky" or "burnt" in Spanish. Coronado gave the area this name because of the volcanic activity he observed while passing through. "A Prayer for Robin" is the first song on this album. The inspiration for this music came to me from a young woman with a beautiful and strong spirit who was engaged in the biggest challenge of her life. She has shown me that even while facing overwhelming odds, that the spirit can still prevail and that love can shine through. Her courage is an example that I wish to follow because I know that I am lucky to have survived so far without such a mountain to climb. My problems are totally insignificant compared to what she and others like herself have to live with from day to day, and still the courage to thrive and succeed is strong in herself and others like her.
