Western Red Cedar Flutes

Affordable, Professional Quality Native American Style Flutes

  • Western Red Cedar Flute

For the budget-conscious, I offer this full-size flute in F#m. It is made from traditional Western Red Cedar. When asked about the difference in tone between Eastern Aromatic Cedar and Western Red Cedar, I usually respond by saying that the Eastern Cedar will have a slightly clearer tone. The Western Red Cedar will have a more "earthy" tone.
People are amazed at how little this flute weighs when they pick it up. The Western Red Cedar in F# makes a good starter flute as well as a good foundation for the beginning of a collection of flutes. This instrument will not disappoint. Some of my customers declare that their Laughing Crow Western Red Cedar Flute is by far their favorite flute in their collection.
Colors above are representative of the woods that I obtain. Western Red Cedar varies from a dark, rusty reddish brown to a blonde creamy color. I may not be able to fulfill your request for a certain shade, but I'll do my best.

  • Western Red Cedar is a traditional, sacred wood. This wood is/was used by western and northwestern Indian tribes. It is soft wood, easy to work and produces a "Native", earthy sound. You can feel the music in the flute because it is so light. The color of Western Red Cedar can vary from cream to reddish brown depending upon the availability. All wood is hand selected for clearness and tightness of grain. The photo above is representative of the flute you will receive. I know you will not find a Native American style flute that plays this sweetly and accurately for this price. Sure, you can go for a more expensive look, but for musical quality, this flute ranks with the best. All my years of experience go into constructing one of the best instruments you will ever own. I have finished this flute, as I do all my flutes, with an extremely durable, waterproof polyurethane. First of all, it protects the flute from moisture. The air passages will not swell after extended playing times. The finish also protects the wood from U.V. rays, strengthens the wood and protects it from moisture and temperature changes. As usual, this flute comes with a turquoise cabochon and a free felt case.

    Hey Richard,

I received my flute today. ( Western Red Cedar Flute)

It is a beautiful work of art.

It sounds amazing, almost hypnotic, even in the hands of this 55 year oldĀ guitar picker. ;)

    Thank you my friend,
