A-minor Afzelia Burl Flute With End Caps & Inlays
Afzelia zylocarpa, known as Makamong burl in Southeast Asia, is a beautiful burl that is rare on the World Market. Similar in appearance to Amboyna Burl, but can be harder to obtain. The body of this flute is Afzelia Burl, the spacers are Purple Heart and the center pieces of the end caps are Amboyna Burl, voids filled with crushed AZ Turquoise. The bird is Amboyna Burl sitting on top of a Fiddleback Maple base. The top is inlaid with marquetry and round Turquoise cabochons.
This flute is smaller in diameter than the lower pitched flutes. It has a crisp tone and is quite responsive. This particular piece of wood has been hanging around the workshop for quite a few years. It was quite the challenge to work with, but now that it's completed, well worth the extra time and effort. A-minor is a good key for people with smaller hands and can make an excellent addition to any collection
