Paduak Flutes in the Native American Style

Native American style flutes created from the African wood, Paduak.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with Mary Youngblood. I offer her play along books and CDs here on this website. She is an inspiration to us all. She plays a Paduak (sometimes spelled Paduk) flute on some of her songs including "Beneath the Raven Moon". I, personally love this wood as it has a musical quality that works well for all types of instruments including the Native American Flute. Due to popular demand, I have begun making making Native American style flutes with Paduak. I make these flutes in Am, Gm, F#m and Em. This wood comes from Africa. It is a clear hard wood similar to Walnut only more solid. It is naturally a rich, rusty blood red when first worked which can change into a coffee color over time. I seal this wood with Danish Oil and finish with at least four coats of clear acrylic polyurethane to help keep the rich reds that we see when the wood is first sanded. The tone is clear and true.

Description:
Each Laughing Crow Paduak Flute is sealed with Danish Oil and finished with at least four coats of clear acrylic polyurethane. Paduak is a robust wood. This finish strengthens the wood and makes it more durable as well as waterproof. The finish also protects the wood from UV rays which will cause the beauty to fade rapidly unless otherwise protected. I have meticulously tuned these flutes with a digital tuner. This means that you can play along with other instruments and be in tune with them, also known as 'concert tuning'. The flutes pictured are examples of the different shades available. Yours will probably be slightly different. However, be assured that this wood is hand-picked . These instruments are created from only the most beautiful and perfect wood that I can find.

These sizes are all average. The hole spacing and hole sizes are the maximum used. Some holes are a bit smaller and some hole spacings are slightly larger than what is listed. It's up to you to decide if your hands can fit these flutes. The lower pitches are bigger and longer. It's a matter of physics. I understand that lots of folks want the lower pitches, but if you want lower, it's going to be bigger. The list starts at the higher pitches and goes lower as you go down the list. I hope this helps you determine the size that you can handle.
