Red Mallee, sometimes called Red Gum, is a native Australian timber. As you can see, it is a gorgeous wood. The tone on this flute is fabulous. No wall-hangers here! The end caps are of Mun ("moon") Ebony and Bird's Eye Redwood. The fetish, or block is Big Leaf Maple Burl with a base of Eastern Aromatic Cedar. As is typical of most burls, this wood had voids which I've filled with crushed Turquoise. Creating a flute like this is, as I'm sure you can imagine, very labor intensive. However, the end result is well worth the time and work that goes into it's birth.
I've included sound files from this instrument so that you can get an idea of what the tone and tuning are. This is an instrument with lots of character, a beautiful grain and a wonderful tone. I'm sure that whomever posesses this instrument will display and play it with pride for a lifetime.
